Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s daughter, Winnie Odinga has revealed about her relationship with her father and what it takes to be a politician’s child.

During an interview, Winnie was free enough to say that Raila is big- headed and most of the time do not take the advices given by the family.

“Baba is more easy going but sometimes I tell him don’t do that or instruct him not to say certain things but he doesn’t listen.

‘How does it feel to be a politician’s child?’

Most of the time when speaking on TV, I get shocked wondering why he has to make certain remarks,” she said.

According to her, Raila’s political career has been instrumental in their family bond. “Politics run within the family.”

“In most occasions, I accompany him (Raila) to most of his tours.”

“I’m his bodyguard, his briefcase carrier, travel companion or even driver if need be. “She stated.

Winnie also recalled the moments when her close confidant and brother, Fidel Odinga passed on in 2015 in his Karen home.

Fidel who was perceived as the heir to Raila’s political throne was described as loving and protective brother who was hands-on as far as politics is concerned.

Winnie also remisced on the botched swearing –in of Raila as people’s president at Uhuru Park in Nairobi county in January 2018.

Not to forget the anxiety and fear roaming within the family when proceeding to the Uhuru Park, this was similar to the incident when late US President John Kennedy was assassinated while on motorcade.

“My father didn’t want me to go, but I insisted on being by his side. “Winnie said.

She ended up pointing out challenges that comes with being a politician’s child starting from being bullied in school to living a lonely life.

On addressing the hate comments about her family on social media, Winnie summoned up her whole life as a taxing job.
