Will Tanzania President Samia Suluhu pick a Christian to be her deputy?

It remains a big question of who Samia Suluhu, the President of Tanzania will choose as her deputy after being sworn in as the 6th President of Tanzania after the demise of their President John Pombe Magufuli.

Samia Suluhu AKA Mama Samia who is now 61 is a good adherer to the Tanzanian culture. In 2015, she was elected as Magufuli’s running mate and got re-elected in last election year alongside Magufuli during the general election.

Inspite her being a Muslim, it is expected of her to choose a Christian as her deputy as it has been the trend in Tanzanian leadership history.

By history, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere was the Prime Minister of then Tanganyika before he became the President. He was a Christian and was succeeded by Ali Hassan Mwinyi-a Muslim.

Mwinyi ruled for 10 years then was succeeded by Benjamin Mukapa, a Christian who served for a dacade and later passed on last year.Mukapa was then succeeded by Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete-a Muslim who after then handed over to the now late President John Pombe Magufuli- a Christian.

Suluhu too is expected to follow the soot being the only female political head of the government in Tanzania and in extension the President to have his deputy a Christian in order to balance the rich history between Muslims and Christianity
